I can't help to read your post and think you were expecting a lot more from the US, when they weren't too far from what they have showed us in the past.
The US doesn't have a key field player, and until they have one, they will always be just a worker bee team. Their inocence and naivety will always keep them where they are in their evolution. Tactically they are disciplined for the majority of the time, but it's their lack of experience and their attention to details deficit that will be their downfall most of the time.

Now for England, certainly not the England anyone was expecting, and without taking anything away from Howard, they didn't do enough to win this game. As you have said, rooney was far from influential, and one has to wonder how healthy he is. It reminds me of Ronaldo's Euro 08, in which he was barely a factor and ended up having ankle surgery following the competition. Rooney is a big part of this team and they need him.

I think the sole blame for this bad result has to fall on Capello. For one Milner, clearly the wrong choice, so wrong he had to burn a sub on him, I don't believe he was subbed for injury reasons, and the yellow card shouldn't have been a good enough reason. Two, Ledley King, same as above, a sub burned to correct. Finally the goalie situation, I'm not really sure if internally the keepers knew who was going to start and when, certainly the media didn't .
How much self belief is a keeper going to have if he is in limbo on wether he is going to be the number one choice or not? Off course this wouldn't have been the case with Calamity, has he has been number one before. But if you intend to make a guy your number one, you need to tell him from the start. Whether Capello told him or not no one knows.
Off course if England had won, none of these issues would be coming up, but they didn't and I'm sure the british press will have a field day with some of these issues.
Tomorrow's game will be very interesting, as both Algeria and Slovenia know they can get an important advantage on England with a win.

Disappointed with England, not surprised by the US.Fumahttp://www.talkingtothedoll.comnoreply@blogger.com
