I'm a couple of days late with the weekly tour of the football blogosphere. Life intervenes sometimes. Bugs me because I watched the Milan Derby and came away with a couple of conclusions: One, when Julio Cesar is on, he's the best in the world (and that's coming from a huge Casillas fan); and Two, Mourinho is just the best. I know people hate him, but him trying to get the crowd on its feet for the final five minutes and those people responding was just tremendous. At least the guy's not a robot.Off to the races:
- EPL Talk is reporting Setanta will stop broadcasting in the US and Canada on Feb. 28. Fox Soccer will pick up its broadcast rights from there.
- Typical hyperbole, but Goal.com wonders if Inter's performance against Milan will carry over to the Champions League, and maybe just maybe, they'll win it all this year. OK.
- Reuters Soccer Blog questions the red card to Sneijder. Clapping sarcastically = Red? Yellow maybe. Purple even. But red?
- Lots of Mourinho-isms post-match from Italian Soccer Serie A. Awesome bulletin-board material quotes from the Special One.
- Rafa Benitez, meanwhile, insists Steven Gerrard is staying at Liverpool. But is he?
- Liverpool can't beat Wolves at home. Bye-Bye top four, Champions League and lost of money.
- Naturally, with Juventus in a tailspin, its manager Ciro Ferrara is on the way out. Benitez says speculation about him moving to Juve is off the mark.
- More on Robinho: EPL Talk points out the crossroads the Robinho is at. Crossroads? 26? Sheesh.
- Cristiano Ronaldo continues to win friends and influence people. His latest antics earn him a two-game suspension.
- Ronaldo, meanwhile, says he shouldn't have been sent off.
- BTW, does it bug anyone else that there are more style, fashion and gossip posts about Ronaldo than football-related entries. Eh, maybe not.
- Great piece by Rob Hughes in the New York Times today on the Egypt-Algeria semifinal in the African Cup of Nations. These guys hate each other.
